Overview |
As with most things in life these days, lots of things we use and how we live is based around electricity. Even we can’t get away from it even by travelling into third world countries, a large quantity of which happily live without any electricity. |

This section includes those enhancements that have been made to the vehicle that use electricity or even make it. |

Dual Batteries and Split Charger |
My little bone of contention at the moment as the National Luna system that I installed has caused a few issues. The system works well and is simple to install, looks smart and is extremely easy to use. However for some reason it was draining the batteries to empty within about 10 days! We have since had some advice and a replacement split charger fitted, however it was claimed it was due to the battery isolator altering what was connected last, upsetting the solenoid of the split charger. |
|
This has meant that I can’t really give much opinion on how good the two Yellow top Optima batteries are. We fitted the yellow tops for both the main and auxillary, rather than a red and yellow after discussions with APB Trading, where we also picked up the split charger. Optima have improved the yellow top to kick out enough power to act as a starter battery as well as a long duty cycle battery, increasing it’s allround ability. |
|
UPDATE: After a number of tests and monitoring it has proven that the battery isolator when turned off upsets the split charger. Why I don't know but as we are more than happy with it's function other than this we are keeping it installed. To assist prevent discharging during long periods of static use when we want to remove the isolator we have added an additional switch that enables/disables the split charger from being connected. All in all it is still a nice piece of kit and has coped well when drenged in water! |

Front Driving Lights and Roof Rack Spot Lights |
Not that we are planning to drive at night if we can help it, but to ensure we can see what we are doing we have fitted some extra lights. We have fitted some Britpart circular driving lights on the A-Bar to be used for normal driving in conjunction to the normal main beam. |
|
We have also fitted four Spot Lights to the roof rack that can be used either with the main beam or fixed permanently on. The purpose of the lights is to illuminate the full area directly in front of the bonnet to ensure the driver can see any rocks, trees and ground conditions that they are about to encounter. Both sets of lights are controlled by individual switches on the centre console. |
